Plan An 'Under The Sea' Reception Dinner
A honeymoon cruise on your agenda may prompt you to host an 'under the sea' wedding reception. Various types of seafood that are prevalent in the waters that the cruise ship will be passing through, as well as cultural cuisine that is found near each dock that the ship will be stopping at will give your attendees a glimpse of what you and your spouse will partake in, once the ocean liner has set sail.
Pick The Fish Varieties
Research the body of water that the cruise liner will be traveling through to find out which types of fish and crustaceans are commonly harvested each year. Some climates are more prone to having an abundance of King crabs and shrimp, whereas others may be noted for octopus, stingrays, and other native species.
Since you and your spouse may partake in an all-you-can-eat buffet while on the cruise liner, maybe you can tie in some of the food varieties that will be offered and add them to the reception dinner menu. Speak to the head wedding catererers who you hire to discuss the seafood types that you and your partner prefer. Pick one or two fish varieties for the main course and several others for soup and appetizers. You can either have food plated and served to each individual or you can set up some self serve stations around the room where the festivities are taking place.
Use You Wall Decor To Tie Into The Serving Aspect
If you want the dining area to be organized and correlate to the dishes that are being served, hang some pictures of shrimp, lobsters, and tropical fish, along the interior walls of the dining area. Stick to fish and crustacean pictures that are symbolic of the dishes that will be served and secure the pictures behind each food cart or station that one of the caterers will be using to serve guests tableside. If you choose a buffet style spread, align pictures up behind the buffet table so that the display encompasses the entire area that is located behind the platters of food.
Add Shells WIth Surprises
If you are looking for a unique way to decorate the tables and surprise your guests, some makeshift clam, mussel, or oyster shells can be used to conceal pearl jewelry and other mementos that you would like to give to your invitees. The shells can be constructed out of cardboard or paper mache. You can also purchase some plastic shell novelty containers. Fill the shells with surprises and request that the catering team display them on the tables, prior to the beginning of the reception festivities.
